The Purpose For Retaining Wall Blocks

Whenever a wall collapses on your property, it is time to put some retaining wall blocks in place. While you will probably know why this wall has collapsed, what you may not know is that the retaining wall’s purpose is. Simply put the wall is there to bear the load behind it even though the ground in this area is no longer strong enough to do so.

There are a few different types of retaining wall blocks available for you to choose from today. All of them serve the same purpose, which is to hold up the ground. One of the most common is the segmental blocks. These blocks are made out of a high density concrete so that it can bear a large load. Of course, you can still make this wall look like you want but you will need to use a sledge hammer and a chisel in order to break off the corners and round off the edges.

You may note that there is one main problem with using concrete for this purpose. Concrete itself tends to suck up a lot of water. Most of the time this type of retaining wall is going to be wet since it is in constant contact with the ground. For this reason, you may wish to choose a segmented retaining wall instead. You can easily put these retaining wall blocks into a large amount of water and yet they will never absorb more than one eighth of that water. This is why a lot of people tend to favor these retaining wall blocks. Of course, it also really helps that they are able to easily withstand the test of time.

Now that you know what type of retaining wall blocks you want to use, it is time to get on out there and put one in before all of your property caves in around you. Since this is something that you do not want to have happen, you should head straight off to your local hardware store. There you will be able to get all of the materials that you need for installing your retaining wall blocks.
